Camden Fringe Festival

Using Upstairs at the Gatehouse at the Camden Fringe Festival 2018

Originally a Victorian Music Hall, which opened in 1895, Upstairs at the Gatehouse is a 122 seat fringe theatre in Highgate Village at the northern end of the borough of Camden. It is owned and operated by Ovation Theatres Ltd who started producing shows here in 1997

Our artistic policy is to encourage new and young producers and directors. The Gatehouse’s core audience who live in the Highgate area are very happy to support the venue. So ……we are looking for all forms of theatre…..musicals, drama but not sketch shows or stand-up comedy.  Although one act (sixty minute) shows are ideal for the festival we will also consider two act productions.

Along with producers and directors we also want to encourage new and young, musical directors, choreographers, set, costume &  lighting designers, stage managers, technicians etc.

As well as good reviews and memories of a stunning production we want theatre companies to go away with some box office revenue. Bring your show to The Gatehouse during the Camden Fringe Festival.  We will be happy to look at all proposals.

On top of the above fees the box office is split 70/30 in favour of the visiting company. There are no credit card fees or online commission deductions except on tickets sold through the Camden Fringe office who will deduct a 5% fee. All tickets for all shows at Upstairs at the Gatehouse are £12 & £10 concessions (over 65, registered disabled, students, members of Equity and the MU).

Companies are obliged to use our in-house technician for their performances at a cost of £10 per hour (this charge also applies to ‘the half’, get-ins, pre-show prep time and get-outs).

For those companies wishing to use the space in the daytime (optional) there will be an additional charge of £10 per hour (between 11am and 6pm) for set-up & rehearsal. This daytime charge does not include our resident technician (see above).

Companies not wishing to use the space in the daytime will have access to the auditorium 90 minutes prior to curtain up (early show) or 45 minutes (late show). When there are two companies performing on the same night we will try to time performances so that there is a 45 minute gap between shows.

Performance times: 7.00pm and  8.45pm (Mon – Sat), 5.00pm and 7.30pm (Sundays).
